Art School Studio Preparations Technician

The successful applicant will be dedicated and reliable, practical, adaptable, hard-working, and friendly. You must be able to work well as part of a team and also independently. You need excellent communication skills, skills in prioritizing tasks, problem solving, and an eye for detail. You must be willing to work with other members of your team during mainly evening shifts, some daytime and some weekend shifts. This is a manual job, which involves heavy lifting and efficiently clearing and cleaning the teaching studios after courses and setting up for new courses, often within the same shift. The role demands a good level of fitness, strength and stamina, along with the confidence to warmly welcome new people to the school. Equipment cleaning and repairs, light building maintenance and painting are included in this role. Your working schedule will be set by the Lead Studio Preparations Technician.
A knowledge of art materials and their uses is desirable but not essential.
What you need to know…
16 hours a week, including evenings and weekends, working hours will vary anytime between 09:00 and 20:30 on a shift rota often between 4 and 8 hours.
Annualised hours contract.
£13.75 per hour.
Own transport and a clean driving licence are essential.
DBS checks will be carried out.
What will be expected of you…
· Equipping the studio for the students attending the school including preparation of all necessary materials and equipment for each course.
· Thorough efficient cleaning of the studio and equipment between courses.
· Priming of boards and other supports for use by the students and preparation of other art materials to be used in the courses.
· Decanting paint, effectively cleaning brushes and art equipment.
· Maintaining a good level of cleanliness and organisation at all times in the studios and working areas.
· Use of our digital stock control system (training will be provided).
· Good communication skills, working well as a member of a Team.
· A good level of fitness as the job is very physical involving lots of lifting, carrying, and moving of equipment.
· Confident in welcoming students and tutors.
You will be based at Newlyn School of Art, however, at times you may be required to work offsite to assist with gallery preparations and hanging of artwork for end-of-year shows.
