INSPIRED BY LEONARDO

The Inspired by Leonardo online course offers participants a host of exercises demonstrated and outlined by artist Jesse Leroy Smith using works by Leonardo from the Royal Collection. Exercises and demonstrations range from working with the figure, the portrait and details of hands or drapery, to drawing the sense of motion in water torrents found in rivers and movement in trees catching the wind among other subjects Leonardo depicted. Working with inspiration from one of the great artists of the Renaissance Jesse is able to pull out of Leonardo’s work a great number of ways to bring new ideas and approaches to your work.

The course includes looped film clips of the different subjects explored on the course for participants to draw and paint from alongside the exercises.

Jesse uses a simple range of dry drawing materials including pencils and chalks and watercolours or inks on the course but the teaching and exercises would all also be applicable for any drawing materials and watered-down acrylics should any participants prefer.

A wonderful opportunity to gain inspiring guidance on how to learn from the drawings and mixed media work used by Leonardo across a number of different subjects he depicted and studied.

The course is pre-recorded so that you can take your time to really absorb the wealth of advice, practical exercises and demonstrations throughout the course. We would advise spending at least around 3-4 days working your way through the course. The artist suggests that it would be good to create several studies from each exercise to fully explore the learning and new techniques and approaches.

You have unlimited access to the course for 12 months.
