Dr Virginia Button

Dr Virginia Button is an art historian, writer, curator and teacher with expertise in modern and contemporary British Art.  She was formerly a curator at the Tate Gallery and Tate Britain (1991-2001), curating the Turner Prize from 1993 to 1998, before moving to Cornwall in 2001. She has held a number of roles at Falmouth University, notably Head of Art (2010-13), and Director of Falmouth School of Art (2013-18). She is currently working as a freelance consultant, for example, in December 2018 she co-delivered a course to museum professionals in Tashkent, Uzbekistan for the Institute of Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship, Goldsmiths University of London, hosted by the British Council. Ginny has written extensively and authored books on The Turner Prize (1997, 5th revised edition 2007), Social Systems exh. cat., ProjectBase, Cornwall (2007), St Ives Artists: A Companion for Tate St Ives (2009), and for Tate on Christopher Wood (2003), Ben Nicholson (2007) and Lucian Freud (2015).

Dr Virginia Button
