Mark Surridge
Artist Mark Surridge is a Tutor on our Mentoring Programme and is one of the artists who exhibits in our annual fundraiser.
Mark Surridge was born in 1963; he studied at Maidstone College of Art and gained an MA at Falmouth University, where he was a part-time Senior lecturer in Painting on Fine Art BA.
He has established himself as a highly respected artist living and working in Cornwall. Landscape and the elemental forces of nature have been major inspirations in his work, resulting in ambitious large-scale paintings, sculptures and installations.
Recently his work has made a departure from his earlier abstract paintings into a more personal observational approach to still-life painting. Collecting elements from the surrounding terrain, he goes about assembling, placing and curating these natural objects and aligning them with sea-weathered plastics, reflecting the ever-changing ecology.
Mark Surridge's distinctive and individual work has been shown in numerous solo exhibitions and has been selected for exhibitions including, Falmouth Art Gallery, Cornwall, Newlyn Art Gallery, Cornwall, The Royal Academy, London, The Royal West of England Academy, Bristol, Mini-Meta Abstract Painting from mid-generation British Artists, London and Tate St Ives, Cornwall.
