Rachael Reeves
Artist Rachael Reeves teaches our three-day Contemporary Landscape course and is one of the tutors on our year-long Mentoring Programme.
Rachael lives and works in Newlyn, West Cornwall. Her paintings are inspired by her immediate environment: living very near the sea, she is a regular year-round sea swimmer and the natural world features regularly in her work. Interested in the point where figuration becomes abstraction, and vice versa, her images try to capture a number of viewpoints. Honing in on shape and form, light and dark, the edges of things, painting for Rachael acts as a way to make sense of the fractured nature of experience and perception.
Rachael studied at Coventry University, completing her studies at Chelsea School of Art in London. She has exhibited her paintings widely in both group shows and solo exhibitions at Newlyn Art Gallery, Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens, the London Art Fair, Kestle Barton, Plymouth Art Gallery, RWA Bristol and Penwith Gallery, amongst other places. Rachael is a member of the Newlyn Society of Artists and has taught at various art institutions.
